From anywhere in San Diego Drive into Ocean Beach, turn left on Santa Monica.
Gym is on your left at 4726 Santa Monica, 92107.
Anywhere from 10 to 14 people will be on a team. It depends on how many
people sign up for the league. The more people on the team, the more players
on the court at once. You should not be sitting out more as a result of more
players on your team.
Yes, you can set up your own team. If we feel it is too stacked, we'll
break you up into smaller groups. This is done as we want the new players
to come into the league and not just get absolutely slaughtered by
experienced teams. Please let us know what you think if you have other ideas!
Around week 6, we'll be having a break in regular season play and have an All-Star night (player selection TBD). After the game, we'll have a "Last Man Standing" game open to everyone.
Hard to say before people sign up, but I suspect it will be reasonably
social with a few people taking it too seriously.
Other than meeting some fun people and 8+ weeks of dodgeball, you get yourself
brand spanking new Dodgeball.4.Life T-shirt. A $7.47 value.
Honestly, it really does not. Seriously.
Yes! We have a sponsor (Lucy's) where we all gather post games. Lucy's is one of the better dive bars in San Diego.
$5 off the next season, # championships increased by one in your profile and your picture on next season's shirt. So the next time
you are thinking about arguing a bad call, keep this in mind:
It will take you roughly 11 hours of "work" to earn this $5 reward. That's
a mere 45 cents an hour. So not worth it.
Our motivations for the rule changes are:
Less room for error by the refs
Make the game go faster
Increase the strategy
Get women more involved
It remains to be seen if we've accomplished this. So let's give this a
shot and then make any changes we want.
I am also open to changes & suggestions, just
let us know.
First, don't call them cheaters and definitely don't start cheating in
retaliation. Odds are, it's just one person. If you do it, then their whole
team will retaliate and then everyone starts bitching & moaning about no one
going out. If you get hit, just go out.
If you lose a game/set/match because someone didn't go out, that sucks, but it's
not the end of the world. We'll have two refs and if the call is close,
odds are that half of the people on the court are going to disagree with
the call. If you are willing to pay $150 each person a season, I'll hire some
really good refs and have instant replay & shit. If you aren't willing
to pay that much, then settle for the fact that some people just cheat. If
someone is obviously intentionally cheating, we'll talk to them.
It's best to just take responsibility
for you yourself not cheating and encourage your teammates to do the same.
If you see a teammate cheating, I encourage you to confront them. In the end,
it makes everything better for everyone. Dodgeball may
equal life, but it's still just dodgeball.
If there aren't enough teams (minimum of 5) to allow for enough play time,
everyone will get a full refund.
In general, however, there are no refunds. If you have a really good excuse, feel
free to contact us. Like if
you got hurt, I'll most likely give you a refund.
If you no longer feel like playing or didn't
like the team you got put on, you are probably not going to get a refund.
This operation is really too
small and the budget is too tight to offer refunds at any time. Besides,
it's really cheap.
Oh, hell no! They only can be used for future seasons. If you want to transfer
it to someone else, that's fine. But actually paying you for services rendered
adds a whole host of problems that we don't feel like dealing with.
Not really. They are about being social and playing tons of other sports. This
is just about dodge ball. There will be quite a bit of overlap
between those who play in this league and play in one of Vavi's leagues.
We're going to try something different than Vavi's solution to ref'ing.
We are offering discounts for up coming seasons to those who ref
a match. If you don't like the job that
someone did, you can rate their performance the next day on this site.
The ratings will be private initially, but public eventually. And before
you think about giving refs bad marks because you lost, keep in mind
that the ratings you give will also be public. So if you are a whiner,
it will show. And if you think the refs aren't doing a good job, you are
strongly encouraged to give it a go yourself. Simply update your
Profile and we'll be in contact with you!
Currently, the offer is $7 off the next season for each match you officiate.
While you aren't going to get rich, you might as well do it since you
are already there. Think of it as community service for your dodge ball
community.
It's our goal to run the league at cost. While we make some money on the
pickup nights and a little bit of money on the league, our plan is to
spend all that we take in.
Our #1 goal is to have a bunch of full leagues going. More dodgeball is always better. We'd like to have several leagues going with
10+ teams each. We'd like to think of this as a "players league" with the
players being the ones who decide what rules we should implement.
And being a players league, you should help out your league by
becoming a ref!
